Our beers
Beer is first and foremost a taste, a feeling. Some people like a certain type of beer, others a completely different taste, while some don’t like beer at all. At BLZ, we’ve always wanted to please and surprise with tastes that are out of the ordinary. For example, a beer with cannabis, plum or sauerkraut. You’ll always find a beer to suit you!
BRASSERIE BLZ-COMPANY
The two Balz brothers said to themselves on a fine summer’s day in 2014 ‘hey, what if we tried making beer at home?’ and that’s exactly what they did. The beginnings were encouraging, with the first customers arriving in 2015, and it was in 2018 that the brewery went professional in premises adapted to Orvin.
Why ‘BLZ?
Why BLZ, what’s that dark abbreviation? Try removing the single vowel from their name and you’ll have the answer, the ‘A’ being deemed superfluous.
Simple as that.
Our values
Our values are one of the things we don’t compromise on. Even if we’re passionate about what we do, we’re totally aware that it has an impact. Talking about ecology these days may seem trivial, but it’s fundamental to us.
We try as far as possible to source raw materials produced as close to home as possible!
"Think globally, act locally"
Of course, to ensure that our products are as good as they are responsible, we currently have to import certain materials. For example, sourcing Swiss organic malt is complicated. Malting, which consists of transforming cereals, mainly barley, into malt, is an industry that has slowly disappeared with the industrialisation of the brewing world in Switzerland.
Our vision of reducing our footprint as much as possible led us to find a solution to this problem. We co-founded the Malticluture malting plant, the first organic malting plant in Switzerland, where we malt cereals grown just a few hundred metres from the brewery in Orvin.

The first tests ...
The first attempts weren’t earth-shattering, but practice makes perfect. As the brews progressed, the brothers began to bottle and the beer began to look like something.
Gradually, with word of mouth working wonders and sales increasing, production took on a growing role in the family home. In autumn 2017, it was time to take the plunge and create BLZ-Company!
The first awards
The rest is relatively straightforward. Des produits dont la qualité a rapidement été reconnue avec des récompenses, une équipe grandissante super motivée, une liste de projets et d’idées et projets sans fin qui se réalisent peu à peu. New beers, incredible collaborations, gin with hops, whisky with local malt, magnificent events and so much more.
